Methodology
How UltraCoach is built
Independent synthesis
Our planning system is an independent synthesis of peer-reviewed exercise science, established endurance-training principles and published coaching literature. Sources include work by Jason Koop, Steve House, Scott Johnston, Kilian Jornet, David and Megan Roche, Bryon Powell, Krissy Moehl, Hal Koerner and others. These authors and organisations have not endorsed, approved or participated in the development of this product unless expressly stated otherwise.
The training-priority hierarchy
Every recommendation UltraCoach makes is checked against the same hierarchy, in order:
- Safety - red-flag symptoms and gait-altering pain override everything.
- Feasibility - sessions match the athlete's life hours, terrain and equipment.
- Continuity - a current-capacity bridge from the athlete's recent training.
- Priority stimulus - protect the one or two adaptations that matter this phase.
- Specificity - as race day approaches, sessions resemble the race's demand vector.
- Optimisation - session format and micro-choices only after the layers above are stable.
